MOTORSPORT: Moore going for Wiscombe record
5:00pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in Sport
THE final two rounds of the Bridge Tyres and Wheels Point S Wiscombe Park Hill Climb Championship will take place at the East Devon venue this weekend.
The event represents a final opportunity for Lyme Regis driver Craig Moore to make history in becoming the first driver to win the series on three occasions and in three years in succession.
The Cortina GT driver currently lies third in the standings, 1.23 points in arrears of Anthony Wright in his Audi A3, who in turn trails Ford Fiesta Super-sport driver Mark Shillaber by 0.98 of a point.
Twelve months ago Moore became the first to take two wins in the championship so he has shown he can handle the pressure and put in a rapid drive when required.
Fellow Lyme residents Paul and John Sullivan will contest the Road-going Specialist Production Car category (engines over 1400cc up to 1800cc or motorcycle engines 875cc up to 1125cc) in a Westfield SEi and will face stern opposition from the Stuart Taylor R1 of Philip Pearn, who was third in the 2012 Wiscombe Championship. and Sherborne’s Graham Vingoe, who drives a Caterham7 Superlight R.
Weymouth speed duo Geoff and Graham Blake will compete in their two-litre Westfield SEi but will have to face the challenge of Philip Montgomery-Smith aboard his Fisher Fury. Geoff Blake will be seeking to move up the championship order in which he currently lies seventh.
There will be events on both Saturday and Sunday, which will count for a number of regional championships, and admission is £7 per day and free for accompanied children under-14. Car parking and transfer to the competitors’ enclosure are also free.
Wiscombe Park is situated north of Blackberry Camp.
Follow the AA signs from Honiton and on the A3052.
