RUNNING: Lodmoor launch for first Parkrun
ORGANISERS have hailed the first Weymouth Parkrun as a success after close to 130 people of all ages took part in the 5km race at Lodmoor Country Park last weekend.
The free-to-enter event is being held at the popular seaside venue every Saturday at 9am with joint run director Michael Wilkinson happy at the way the inaugural race went.
“We weren’t sure how many people would come and expected somewhere between 100 and 200,” he said.
“So to get 126 take part was really pleasing.
“Most people had a good time and the atmosphere was great – it was busy but not too busy.
“We had quite a few runners from Poole to help us get it going and there were also some holidaymakers who came along to take part.”
James Sawyer of Stubbington Green Runners (pictured bottom left) was the first person home in a time of 17.26mins. Weymouth AC’s Kevin Archer was fifth.
Gloucester AAC’s Hayley Winters was the top female, crossing the finish line in 19.49mins
