BEES: Bridport set for Vase battle at Plymouth Parkway
PLYMOUTH PARKWAY v BRIDPORT
A STIFF challenge awaits Bridport tomorrow when they head to Devon to begin what is hoped will be a fruitful FA Vase campaign.
Bolitho Park is the venue for the Bees’ clash with Plymouth Parkway in the first qualifying round of this season’s competition (3pm).
And while Bridport have made a disappointing start to their campaign with just one victory so far, their opponents this weekend are on a high after winning all of their fixtures in both league and cup.
Parkway, who have maximum points from four matches in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division, go into tomorrow’s tie fresh from a 4-1 thumping of Ilfracombe Town in the FA Cup last time out.
The Bees, meanwhile, will be aiming to put Wednesday night’s 2-0 reverse at Willand Rovers behind them and kick-start what has been a frustrating season to date.
“This is another big game for us and the club as we would like to earn a bit of money with a good run in the competition,” said assistant-manager Kev Leigh.
“Plymouth Parkway have always been a very good side over the years and it will be a difficult game.
“They beat Ilfracombe fairly comfortably last Saturday and it’s going to be very tough for us, especially at their place and with the way they are playing at the moment.”
Steve Smith came off with a knee injury at Willand, as did Sam Charles, so Leigh won’t know until later today whether they are going to be available.
Chris Luke is back from travelling and there is an outside chance he could feature, although ideally Leigh would like him to get game time with the reserves first.
“It’s been a disappointing start for us,” he added. “Individually we are doing okay but collectively we need to improve.”
