MAGPIES: Players are up to the test, says Stuart Heath
STUART Heath believes the Dorchester Town squad has the character to come through what has been a testing last few weeks for the county town club.
And the Magpies’ assistant manager is adamant that the situation involving want-away defender Charlie Clough won’t have a negative effect on the players.
A 350-mile round trip to Canvey Island to face Concord Rangers lies in store for the county town club tomorrow (3pm) and they will be desperate to seal a maiden win of the season at the Aspect Arena.
And given that The Beachboys, promoted to Skrill South from the Isthmian League Premier Division in May, haven’t had the greatest of starts either, the fixture provides the Magpies with a good opportunity to do just that.
Heath reckons his men have got to concentrate on their own performance first rather than worry about the opposition – and being a bit more positive is the place to begin.
“Given the position we are in we’ve got to focus on ourselves first and then understand what strengths and weaknesses our opponents have,” he said.
“We’ve got to give the best performance we can and look to turn hings around as we’ve got ourselves in a bit of a rut at the moment.
“We need to be more consistent and positive about our performance. I think the players need to have a bit more trust in each other too.
“If we do that then there is plenty of time to turn it around.”
After featuring for the reserves in midweek, Arran Pugh and Danny Green are set to continue their comebacks from long lay-offs.
And, should no club come in for him before kick-off, Charlie Clough, who has had a transfer request accepted by the Magpies, will also be involved.
Heath added: “The situation with Charlie is unfortunate but these things happen in football.
“We have got some strong characters in the squad and the management team and something like this won’t affect us.”
