MAGPIES: Simkin stunned by Concord loss
PHIL Simkin admitted that the Magpies were left “stunned” after losing to Concord Rangers on Saturday.
The Dorchester Town supremo, said there was an air of disbelief in the dressing room following his side’s 1-0 defeat at the Aspect Arena.
After looking set to claim a point, the Magpies were presented with a golden chance to take all three when Bournemouth loanee Aristide Bassele earned his new side an 80th-minute penalty.
However, Ben Watson struck the bar with his spot-kick and minutes later home skipper Steve King bundled in the winner leaving the visitors distraught.
“When we got the penalty I thought it was the change of luck we needed,” said Simkin. “But Ben hit the bar, they broke and scored from a free-kick and we’ve come away with nothing – I can’t believe it.
“But that’s been the story of our season so far. We just don’t seem to get any luck whatsoever and I don’t know when it’s going to change.
“We all got back in the dressing room after the game and the lads were just stunned, they didn’t quite know where to start with what had happened.”
Simkin’s side, missing the suspended Alan Walker-Harris and Charlie Clough, will go again when they host Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday.
The boss praised the keeper after his man of the match display on Saturday and was pleased with Bassele’s impact. “Alan played exceptionally well and I also thought Aristide had a terrific debut,” he added.
