TERRAS: Kyle Critchell recovering from life-threatening infection
KYLE Critchell faces months of rehabilitation after overcoming numerous surgeries to remove a life-threatening infection.
Last month the 26-year-old was diagnosed with severe sepsis but thanks to the specialist care provided by Dorset County Hospital he is now in a stable condition.
Understandably, Critchell and his family have called for privacy at this time but he and his fiancé Kate Adorian have asked Weymouth FC to issue the following statement: “Kyle has been receiving treatment for the past three weeks at Dorset County Hospital after being diagnosed with severe sepsis, believed to have originated from an abscess in his hip.
“Kyle became dangerously unwell extremely quickly.
“He required numerous surgeries to remove the infection and specialist treatment from the Critical Care Unit, which provided support for his breathing and other vital functions.
“Kyle will need continued help from doctors through intense antibiotic treatment and rehabilitation which may take some months. He is now making good progress and things are thankfully moving in the right direction.
“We are particularly grateful to Emma Sidey at DCH for everything she has done for Kyle and the amazing effort she has put in to his care.
“We would greatly appreciate some privacy at this difficult time so that Kyle can focus on recovery.”
Adding to the statement, club chairman Nigel Biddlecombe said: “On behalf of everyone at Weymouth Football Club, I would like to reiterate our best wishes to Kyle and continue to hope for a speedy recovery.”
