TERRAS: King hopes for a double swoop
BRENDON King is hoping to have two new players on board in time for Tuesday’s scheduled Calor South-ern Premier Division clash at home to AFC Totton.
With goalkeeper Simon Evans out for the season and Kyle Critchell facing months of rehabilitation after undergoing surgery to remove a life-threatening infection, the Weymouth boss has been forced to swoop for reinforcements as he looks to continue his side’s promising start to the campaign.
Gloveman Matt Cafer, pictured, is set to sign from Yeovil Town on non-contract terms while the identity of the other target, believed to be a midfielder, remains a secret.
King explained: “We are bringing a young keeper on board called Matt Cafer, who is a local lad that has been at Yeovil for a while.
“We are signing him on non-contract forms and subject to all the paperwork being sorted in time he should hopefully be in the squad for the Totton game.
“We also put a seven-day approach in for another lad earlier this week but the paperwork on that one is still waiting to be finalised and because of that, I cannot mention his name at present.
“We are also hopeful that he will be available to us on Tuesday as well and once everything is finalised we will be sure to let people know who it is.”
The Terras, who travel to Fareham Town this afternoon in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, have lost just one game in seven so far this season.
However, after starting the campaign with three successive wins they are now on a winless run of four and clearly in need of extra bodies with Michael Walker and Jamie Symes also still sidelined.
*The Red Insure Cup first round tie between Bashley and Weymouth at the Recreation Ground has been moved to Wednesday, October 16 (7.45pm).
The fixture was scheduled to take place the previous day but it has since been switched to avoid a clash with England's World Cup qualifier against Poland.
