Under-18 Division One
PORTLAND TOWN 2 BOURNEMOUTH POPPIES 2
PORTLAND Town showed great character to claim a point from their first-ever outing in Under-18s Division One.
The islanders defended heroically from start to finish and gave the Poppies a real scare in the second half.
Apart from a trio of early saves from Portland stopper Matty Peart, the opening period was fairly quiet but things soon livened after the break when the game suddenly opened up.
A handball infringement allowed Matt Dunlop to net the opener from the spot but the Poppies were soon back level after scrambling the ball home from a corner.
Peart then pulled off a fabulous one-on-one save but was helpless to stop the visitors taking the lead just two minutes later following a defensive mix-up.
The islanders could have drop-ped their heads after that but instead they battled back and were eventually rewarded when Danny Clifford made it 2-2 direct from a corner.
After that Town saw the game out with no further problems to pick up a well-earned point against one of the strongest sides in the league.
