TERRAS: Symes set to return against Totton
7:10am Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
JAMIE Symes could return for the Terras tonight when they take on AFC Totton at the Bob Lucas Stadium (7.45pm).
The talented midfielder has been sidelined with a groin injury since the start of the season, but Brendon King is now hopeful he is over the worst of it and looking forward to having him back in the squad.
The Weymouth boss told Echosport: “Jamie may be involved this evening. He trained hard before Saturday’s 1-0 win at Fareham and as long as there has been no adverse reaction to that he will return.
“There is also good news concerning Luke Winsper. He took a knock on his ankle at the weekend, but it is now a lot better, which means he should be available too.”
The Terras have also been trying to add two new additions to their squad but it is unclear whether both deals will go through in time.
Goalkeeper Matt Cafer is set to arrive from Yeovil Town on non-contract terms while the other potential signing is being kept a secret until all the paperwork is finalised.
King added: “Matt should be okay because that one is quite straightforward but on the other one, we will just have to wait and see.”
Totton, who are running on a vastly reduced budget this season, currently sit 19th in the Calor Southern Premier Division with just six points from seven games, but King is certainly not taking anything for granted.
He said: “Totton’s troubles have been well documented recently and they are where they are but there are no easy sides in this division, so I am expecting another very difficult game.
“Whenever we have come up against them recently they have always been high-scoring games with a lot of drama but to be honest I would take a scrappy 1-0 win tonight.
“As long as we get it down and play the right way, we are more than a match for anyone.”
The FA Cup victory at Fareham at the weekend ended a winless run of four games for the Terras and also landed them a home tie against Frome Town or Bognor Regis Town in the second qualifying round on September 28.
Commenting on the draw, King said: “We have got to be pleased because we are at home but it is one of those that could have been better and could have been worse.
“Obviously one of the sides (Frome) we know very well because they are in our league but sometimes it is better not to know so much.
“Having said that Bognor are going well in the Ryman Premier so whatever happens, it is going to be tough.”
