GOLF: Knockout show from Weymouth
CALVIN Drage and Tom Robson were among the winners at the Knockout Finals at Weymouth Golf Club.
Drage finished one-up on Pat Crane to lift the Porteous Cup while Tom Robson triumphed 6/5 against Jon Welch to claim the Hope & Keen Cup.
The Knockout Finals are one of the club’s major end-of-season events and once again there were some outstanding performances.
The most exciting finish came in the Muir Foursomes where Dawn Holland and Carol Freeman secured the title on the 19th hole.
Elsewhere, Audrey Garnett beat Pam Lee 4/2 to win the Templer Cup while Connor Aitken overcame George Hawkins 3/2 to secure the James Lewis Evans Cup.
Other winners included John and Dilys Grant (Overhill Cup), Bradley Davis (Junior Scratch) and Sally Davis (Hill Trophy), who also recently achieved the Club Champion award.
The Grants beat Pat Ray and Roy Penager one-up, while Bradley Davis overcame Sean Dimmick 5/3.
Drage also returned to win the Groves competition alongside Dean Curtis. They completed the roll of honour by defeating John Bishop and Graham Miles 5/4.
Today is Pink Day at the club, which will see around 240 golfers take to the course in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign.
During the last four years, this annual event has raised £39,000 for the worthy cause and other locally-based charities.
Organiser Dave Picton said: “All the money we raise will help the ongoing battle to find a cure for breast cancer and this year the funds will be split, with half going to the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust at Dorset County Hospital.”
