TERRAS: Allen aims for play-offs
DAVE Allen believes everything is in place at the Bob Lucas Stadium for a push for the play-offs.
The experienced midfielder made his debut for Weymouth in Tuesday night’s victory over AFC Totton and is likely to feature again this afternoon against league leaders Hemel Hempstead Town (3pm).
The Terras currently sit fifth in the Calor Southern Premier Division, just six points adrift of the Tudors, who make the trip to Dorset today having won seven of their eight league games so far this season.
Looking ahead to the clash, Allen told Echosport: “Hemel are up there on merit and clearly must have a good side, so we are expecting another tough test.
“These are the teams we should be challenging and if we could pick up another three points it would set us up very nicely indeed.
“With the signings that Brendon King and Matt Groves have brought in this year, we have a very competitive team at this level, which is more than capable of pushing for a top-five finish, and that is clearly the aim.”
Allen, who has joined the club on non-contract terms following a brief second spell at Bashley, enjoyed a solid first outing against the Stags but he does feel it will be a couple of weeks before he is at full tilt.
He added: “Tuesday was a bit manic because I didn’t know I was playing until I got down here. I didn’t have a pre-season this year, which has caused me a bit of concern.
“I broke my foot in January and then did it again in March, and after that I have been playing catch-up ever since.
“I played three games for Bashley but I still wouldn’t say I am completely match fit at the moment. In five or six more games I should be fully up and running.”
Allen almost signed for the Terras at the start of last season but ended up following ex-Bash boss Steve Riley to Totton instead.
* The Terras have been drawn at home to Shaftesbury Town in the second round of the Dorset Senior Cup, while Dorchester Town will entertain Hamworthy Rec.
The games are scheduled to be played on Tuesday, October 29 (7.45pm).
