TRIATHLON: Euro medals for TriPurbeck trio
TRIPURBECK established itself as one of the country’s leading triathlon outfits with three stunning medal-winning performances at the European Long Distance Championships in France.
Club founder Fran Bungay, Liz Hall and Dave Pratten had qualified as part of the Great Britain team of 32 athletes who joined 1,400 others in the French spa town of Vichy to tackle the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42km run.
The swim took place in the rowing lake, Lac d’Allier, followed by a bike ride into some strong head winds, particularly in the final 30km. The marathon run passed through the famous parks of Vichy and banks of the Allier River.
Bungay led the way to take gold in the women’s 35-40 age group, Hall, making her GB debut, won the 45-50 age group, and Pratten, at 60, took silver in his category and was the only male medal winner in the GB team.
The fact that the rest of the GB team managed to achieve three bronzes between them demonstrates the remarkable performance of the Dorset club which was only founded in 2010.
Bungay and Pratten coach at the club and are looking to deliver taster sessions in local schools over the coming months.
The club has 100 members and provides coaching and advice in swimming, cycling and running from novices to seasoned internationals.
It also organises competitions for children from eight years and above to adults.
The club welcomes new members and can be contacted through email at firstname.lastname@example.org
