MAGPIES: County town joy in FA Youth Cup
Dorchester Town 2 AFC Portchester 1
GOALS from Hamish Smith and Sam Old saw Dorchester Town go through to the second qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup.
Neil Mackie’s Under-18s trailed opponents Portchester at half-time at the Avenue before overturning a 1-0 deficit to progress.
They will now travel to face the winner of the tie between Moneyfields and Westbury United, which was being played last night.
Portchester started the game the better of the two sides and scored with a great strike by Kurt Watts to end the first half in the ascendancy.
Finding themselves a goal down, the young Magpies were easily the more dominant team in the second half and forced the visiting keeper into a handful of superb saves.
And the hosts’ pressure eventually paid off with Smith equalising courtesy of an emphatic finish from close range.
Then a Magpies’ free-kick was only parried by the Portchester keeper and Old headed in the loose ball to make it 2-1.
The visitors couldn’t find a second to level proceedings and even had a man sent-off in the closing stages.
Magpies: Reynolds, S Smith, Oliver, Hilton, Jones, Bagwell, Evans, Wash, Woodland, Old, H Smith. Subs: Nichols, Morris, MacDonagh, Mariner, Hibbs.
