FOOTBALL: Aston fires Bar 314 as Dolphin sunk
MIDFIELD maestro Paul Aston inspired Bar 314 to a fine 3-1 victory over Dolphin in the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership.
The talented playmaker not only opened the scoring with a header from a corner but he was also at the heart of everything for the reigning champions, who continue to look a strong bet to retain their title.
Grant Chance made it 2-0 with another header that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar before the hosts pulled one back through Charlie May following a defensive error.
That set up a nervy second half but the table-toppers retained their composure and eventually sealed the victory with a strike from Ricky Lane just 12 minutes from time.
Famous Old Spa and Radipole lead the chasing pack and sit three points adrift of Bar 314 in second and third respectively.
The Old Spa, formerly Alexandra, beat Broadmayne 3-1 thanks to efforts from David Ash, Aarron Riley and Dean Taylor, while Radipole triumphed 9-6 at Lazy Lizard with hat-tricks from Dan McDonald and Matt Brown, and strikes from Ben Porteous, Dean Richards and Azdine Toudali. Sam Hayne (4), Luke Elswood and Sam Moors replied for the Lizard.
There were also successes for Britannia, Market House and Alexandra, formerly Dolce Vita.
The Brit beat Aura 4-1 with goals from Antony Carlile (2) Stu Burley and Robert Squibb, while the Alex hammered Sailors Return 7-2 with efforts from Jake Price (3), Lee Rockingham (2), Josh Legg and O Cooke.
Finally, Market House triumphed 4-1 against Moby Dick’s, whose consolation came from Paul Hayers.
