HOCKEY: Bustin breaks through for Weymouth
WEYMOUTH 1 BOURNEMOUTH II 0
RACHEL Bustin’s first-half goal was enough to give Weymouth the East Division win over their opponents from Bournemouth.
Weymouth were anticipating a tough game and were keen to put their new formation into practice against a strong side.
The hosts started well, keeping their shape throughout with the defence marking well and spoiling any attack from the Bournemouth team.
Weymouth created a lot in the midfield, moving the ball out to the wingers to get attacks going, but although they had several shots on goal they could not break the deadlock.
The Bournemouth keeper was also quick to prevent any goals. That was until some quick passing from Luce Bryne saw Bustin convert with a soft touch around the keeper.
Discuss-ions at half time led by Emily Austin kept spirits high and the home side kept their shape in the second period, blocking any attack coming down the middle.
Weymouth had several short corners in the second half, but shots on goal were snuffed out by the Bournemouth keeper.
The visitors then broke through the home defence with quick play, however, a fantastic block by Alice Craven saved the day for Weymouth.
Austin’s side began attacking again and, although they couldn’t add a second goal, they held on for a narrow win.
