RUGBY: Galvanised Dorchester out to maintain record
DORCHESTER head coach Martin Peel reckons last weekend’s home victory over Corsham has galvanised his ranks.
The county town currently hold a 100 per cent record in Southern Counties South and will be out to continue that tomorrow when they host Walcot at Coburg Road.
Peel’s men beat Corsham 10-0 but the brutal victory did come at a cost with scrum-half Dave Gower absent this weekend due to a head wound, and winger Joe Newton facing several weeks on the sidelines with a badly twisted knee.
As a result, Dave Cottell will come in on the tight-head with Jonny Bowden reverting back to his former position at scrum-half.
Jamie Morgan is also available once again and will return to full-back with David Clarke switching to the wing. Tom Gower will provide cover on the bench.
Commenting on tomorrow’s clash, Peel said: “Last weekend’s win has galvanised the squad and it’s really pleasing to have so many options available from an in-form second XV to choose from. It’s also great having back-to-back home games so we can try and keep our momentum going, continue developing our game and show our ambition.”
Basement boys Weymouth, who lost 79-7 at Walcot last Saturday, host high-flying Wells at Monmouth Avenue, while Swanage & Wareham travel to Corsham.
Wells obliterated Ivel Barbari-ans 86-0 in their last outing and currently sit top of the table, having scored 153 points in three straight victories.
On the evidence of that, winless Weymouth will certainly have their work cut out as they continue to try and steady the ship after huge changes during the summer.
Meanwhile, Bridport will be looking to bounce back at home to Salis-bury Seconds in Dorset & Wilts One South.
Puddletown and Weymouth Seconds both face away trips at Lytchett Minster and Poole respectively in Dorset & Wilts Two South, while Weymouth Thirds travel to Ellingham & Ringwood Thirds in Dorset & Wilts Four.
