GOLF: Hardy show as Came Down promoted
5:00pm Monday 7th October 2013 in Sport
CAME Down’s Hardy A team can look forward to playing in a higher league next year after being crowned Division Three champions.
They began their campaign with a narrow loss at Meyrick Park (9-7) in the Hardy A Cup followed by a 10-6 defeat away to Lyme Regis, but after that, they played some excellent golf to go undefeated for the rest of the season.
Wins at Ferndown Forest (9-7) and at home to Bridport (11-5) saw them go top of the table and that is where they stayed as they went on to dominate the division.
In their remaining three matches, they overcame Dudsbury (14-2) and Isle of Purbeck (11-5) on their own course, either side of a great draw on the road at Dorset Golf & Country Club (8-8).
Those results guaranteed Came Down promotion and with Bridport going on to beat Isle of Purbeck, they also claimed the title to the delight of everyone involved.
The players that represented the club were Matt Walker, Sam Roles, Mike Spearing, Robbie Rolls, Gareth Hughes, Alan Stickley, Tony Brant, Tony Howe, Des Puckett, Geraint Hughes, Alex Craig, Jim Stewart, Steve Wells, Mike Ford and Martin Hastings. Captain Howe would like to thank everyone for their support.
