TERRAS: Weymouth board to shed light
THE board of directors at Weymouth FC are set to respond today to the current uncertainty surrounding the club.
The hierarchy at the Bob Lucas Stadium are bidding to lift the restrictions on the amounts of shares any one person can hold in the Terras in the hope of attracting new investment.
The motion is set to be the hot topic at this Sunday’s EGM at the club (11am) with a potential investor understood to be waiting in the wings.
Chairman Nigel Biddlecombe told Echo-sport: “Due to confidentiality issues we cannot give a statement at this time but one is forthcoming and hopefully that will explain more to the fans and the shareholders at the club.”
Any change to the club’s share ownership limit would be seen as a U-turn by the Terras after deciding to go down the community club model just 16 months ago, when the majority shareholding was signed over to a trust for safeguarding.
Weymouth FC Supporters Association chairman Ade MacDonald added: “As the supporters group, we would always support the community ownership model. However, the fans should also know that they can trust, 100 per cent, the integrity of the directors, and I ask them to bear with them.
“We have asked the board to make information available ahead of the EGM so shareholders can take stock before making any decisions, and I trust the board to make that happen.”
*Hinckley United’s playing record in the Calor Southern Premier Division is set to be expunged after the club was officially liquidated.
A judge at Birmingham High Court issued a winding-up order on the club.
Southern League chairman Ken Turner said: “It is accepted that these are extremely difficult times for all football clubs and it is important that the obvious warnings are heeded and that clubs ensure that they operate within their means.
“Otherwise, there are likely to be more and more finding themselves with similar problems to those that have brought an end to the existence of Hinckley United.”
The Terras drew 2-2 at Hinckley back on September 7 with Stewart Yetton, pictured, grabbing both goals.
