HOCKEY: Mixed fortunes for Weymouth Ladies
TEAM BATH LADIES II 2 WEYMOUTH LADIES 0
TEAM Bath scored twice in the first half to seal a win over their South Coast visitors.
Bath started quickly, spreading the ball to the wings, using the width of the pitch and keeping Weymouth on the back foot.
The long journey had clearly taken its toll on the Weymouth side with Bath scoring in the first 10 minutes with a strike from the drop of the D.
Weymouth continued to battle and held their ground well with excellent play from Emily Austin down the right creating numerous attacking opportunities.
However, they conceded a penalty corner after strong attacking play from Team Bath and the hosts converted for a 2-0 lead.
Weymouth continued to play well and had several chances to score, one a fantastic shot on goal by Rachael Bustin which the Bath keeper was equal to.
After highlighting areas that needed to be improved, the visitors began the second half strongly and kept their shape, maintaining good pace throughout thanks to Susie Stone in midfield.
The Weymouth defence of Anneka Rogers, Sophie Foot, Naomi Gadian, Olivia Culbreth and Jacqui Riddler were strong and fed the midfield and wingers to create attacks.
Austin created openings, giving Weymouth a couple of penalty corners in quick succession, although try as they might they couldn’t pull a goal back.
Weymouth had a high percentage of possession, but unfortunately could not put a dent in the 2-0 scoreline.
