BEES: Dream start for Stewart
3:57pm Sunday 13th October 2013 in Sport
SEAN Stewart enjoyed a dream debut and in the process put the Bees on cloud nine at St Mary’s Field.
The midfielder netted a hat-trick in a superb all-round display in the 9-2 win over Parley Sports, and Robin Townsend is in no doubts he is a first-team player in the making.
The Bridport second-team boss told Echosport: “Sean has come in from Upwey and on Saturday he was outstanding.
“I know he has had a bit of a bad reputation but he has got a fresh start with us now and if he carries on playing the way he did at the weekend, it won’t be long before he is with the first team. The ball is very much in his court and it is up to him now to make the most of the opportunity.”
Ben Clarke also bagged a brace for the Bees whose other goals came from Jack Scovell, Gary Bulman, Carl Bulman and Adam Steele.
Townsend added: “The only disappointing thing about the game was the two soft goals we conceded. Apart from that I was very happy indeed.
“They took the lead but once Jack got us back level it got us going a bit and we were 3-1 up by half-time. That perhaps flattered us a bit because Parley also had a few chances too. However, for whatever reason, they then fell apart at the start of the second half and it was soon 6-1.
“Their second goal came after we had switched off at a set piece, which was disappointing, but all in all it was a very pleasing performance.”
First-teamers Russell Legg and Roger Cummings also got minutes under their belts, although Townsend did find it hard to drop a couple of players as a result.
He said: “Ben Clarke, Robin Jones and Harry Fleet all started on the bench through no fault of their own really, but at the end of the day that is what we are here for, to help the first team.”
The Bees, who travel to Mere Town next Saturday, currently sit seventh in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League, just two points adrift of the top four.
Bees: B Fleet, King, Day, A Clarke, Steele, Stewart, Legg (H Fleet 65), G Bulman, C Bulman, Scovell (B Clarke 46), Cummings (Jones 60).
