GOLF: Weymouth seal a Stokes treble
THE Weymouth scratch team have retained the Stokes Salver for the third successive year, writes club captain Colin Huckle.
The talented side defeated Sherborne 6.5-5.5 to clinch the trophy which was later presented to skipper Jon Welch.
Many congratulations also go to Pat Crane and his Hardy A team, who also won their league this year, and Sally Davis, who has become a double ladies’ champion by winning the ladies’ Club Championship with the best gross score over 36 holes. She also secured the Van Noort Trophy for the best nett score.
The season still has further to run for the juniors, who have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Junior Four Nation Champion-ships.
They travel to Essendon in Hertfordshire for their next match, which will take place on October 19 and 20.
To celebrate all the individual club champions and teams, the club is holding a special competition on Saturday, November 2 when teams of six are being invited to take part in a Stableford competition, with the best four scores to count.
See Des Lochrie in the Pro shop for full details and to enter your teams.
A hot buffet social gathering will take place in the evening following the competition.
