TERRAS: Bash lights out labelled a joke by King
BRENDON King labelled the circumstances surrounding the postponement of the Terras’ Red Insure League Cup tie at Bashley tonight a “joke” after the game was called off 15 minutes before kick-off.
Floodlight failure at the Hampshire club’s ground could not be remedied in time for the first-round clash and the match failed to go ahead – it will now take place next Tuesday (7.45pm).
That means the league encounter at home against Hungerford Town, scheduled for that night, will now have to be rearranged.
And with the potential for replays in the FA Cup and Trophy in the next few weeks, there could be yet more disruption to Weymouth’s Calor League Premier Division fixture programme.
Reacting to tonight’s events, boss King said: “Apparently, Bashley haven’t had their floodlights on for a couple of weeks and with a lot of rain in the day maybe some has got in there.
“They went to put them on at 6.45pm and they didn’t work, but we prepared as normal, and then it was about 15 minutes before kick-off that the officials called it off.
“It’s a bit of a joke, and something we are not happy with. It’s frustrating to say the least and has messed up our whole week.”
* The dates for two of the Terras’ other rearranged league games have been confirmed. They go to Hitchin Town on Monday, December 16 and host Burnham on Tuesday, January 7 of next year.
