GOLF: Weymouth's Robson to make Faldo Series bid
6:00am Saturday 19th October 2013 in Sport
TOM Robson is set to cross the Atlantic tomorrow to take part in the 17th Faldo Series Grand Final at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.
The Weymouth Golf Club member has never been to America before and is determined to make the most of the experience.
Robson told Echosport: “I have always wanted to go to America, so it’s very exciting.
“The venue stages the Greenbrier Classic each year and is a top course, and the fact we get to do a half-day academy with Sir Nick Faldo as well as play in a 54-hole competition there, is just fantastic.”
The competition, for boys and girls aged 12-21, is made up of 38 annual tournaments, which take place in 28 countries worldwide.
The leading players then qualify for the Grand Final where they get the chance to emulate past Faldo Series winners such as Rory Mc-Ilroy and Yani Tseng.
Robson added: “Qualifiers are held all over Europe and if you win one outright, and not just your age group, you automatically qualify for the final, which is what I did at Royal Ashdown Forest in East Sussex earlier this year.
“This is actually my final year in the Faldo Series so to get this far is very pleasing indeed.”
The Grand Final starts on Tuesday and runs through to Thursday.
