RACING: Card on Cue for Haldon Gold Cup seasonal debut

CUE Card is on course to make his seasonal debut in the Haldon Gold Cup for the second successive year before Dorset trainer Colin Tizzard considers stepping the Ryanair Chase winner back up in trip.
The seven-year-old took the Exeter feature over two and a quarter miles in tremendous fashion by 26 lengths from Edgardo Sol to get the 2012-13 campaign off to a flying start.
As well as winning at the Chelt-enham Festival for a second time, Cue Card also lifted the Betfair Ascot Chase and ran the brilliant Sprinter Sacre to four and a half lengths in the John Smith’s Melling Chase at Aintree.
The only real blip on his record last term was when he tackled three miles for the first time in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and was only fifth to Long Run.
However, Tizzard is keen to give his stable star another crack at the staying trip. He said: “The plan is to start off at Exeter and we’re looking at the King George, but we might well go for the Betfair Chase at Haydock to find out if he truly stays three miles.”
