MARTIAL ARTS: Euro double for Weymouth kickboxers
WEYMOUTH Martial Arts Centre’s King Tiger Thai Boxing has two new Total Full Contact European Kickboxing champions.
Darren Anstley and Sam Osmond both recorded stoppage victories over strong Spanish opposition on a big show at Bristol City FC’s Ashton Gate.
Lightweight Osmond overcame a torrid opening round and two shoulder dislocations to grind down the far more experienced Miguel Molina from the Steel Legion Gym.
The Spaniard couldn’t come out for the fifth round due to rib injuries and so Osmond earned his 10th victory in as many fights.
Big-hitting Anstley scored his seventh knockout in eight fights since joining the club in beating Steel Legion’s Francisco Ginaro.
He dropped his rival with a body shot then finished the heavyweight contest in the third with knees to the head.
King Tiger head coach Tom Ashe said: “I’m really proud of the lads as both had to dig deep against what were their toughest opponents to date.
“And for Sam, to keep going after his shoulder came out in the second and fourth rounds, showed an incredible will to win.
“Darren was back in there just four weeks after winning the British title in Weston-super-Mare with a second round knockout.”
Both men will be back in action on Saturday, November 9 on the club’s Fight Night 6, The Next Generation show at Weymouth Pavilion.
The event will also highlight some of the club’s younger fighters coming through the ranks.
