THE Ladies of the Dorset Golf & Country Club have won the County Inter-club Final in a close contest at Crane Valley after beating Broadstone 4-3.
This is the first time in the competition’s history, stretching back to 1928, that the DGCC Ladies have won the coveted trophy.
The game could not have been closer with the match decided by the last pair on the 18th green. Tracy Bazell won the first match on the 17th in a game that had been even throughout.
Team captain Ann Elliott came back from two down to win on the 18th green.
Meanwhile, Angie Brudenell lost her match on the 15th hole. The third match proved pivotal when vice-captain Julie Jenkins came back from four down to two down with two to play.
She won the last two holes to take the match to extra holes and won on the 19th.
Lesley Brown lost on the 18th in a great contest that included a birdie two by Brown on the 16th. Binny was ahead for most of her match but was brought back to all square on the 18th and lost to a birdie on the 19th hole.
The match was poised at 3-3 with Pauline Henson all square on the 17th tee. However, she held her nerve to par the 17th to go one up when her opponent took three from the edge of the green.
Two great shots just short of the 18th green set up a half in five and a first win for the ladies.
