TERRAS: Cup cruise for five-star Weymouth
MARK Ford and Dave Allen both hit doubles for the Terras tonight as they eased through to the second round of the Red Insure Cup at Cuthbury.
Jamie Symes also found the target in the 5-0 win over Bashley, which was switched to the home of Wim-borne Town following last week’s postponement in Hampshire due to floodlight failure.
Weymouth boss Brendon King told Echosport: “We set a good tempo from the start and at 4-0 up at half-time it was already job done.
“It was hard to repeat that in the second half but we still managed to get another one and kept a clean sheet, which was pleasing.
“We had to bring Fordy off as a precaution due to a slight niggle in his knee but apart from that everyone came through it okay.
“Michael Walker got another hour under his belt and I was pleased with some of the performances, particularly from the lads who came up from the reserves who all acquitted themselves well.”
Next up for the Terras is a huge FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie against Conference outfit Braintree Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
The winners of that clash will receive £12,500 and the opportunity to secure a lucrative tie against a League club in the first round proper.
Terras: Cafer, Sharpe, Wells, Winsper, M Walker, Poole, Symes, Allen, Ford, Groves, Holland. Subs: Burbidge, Anstey, Tewkesbury, Harvey, McClements
