FOOTBALL: Toghill signs off at Portland with famous five

JOE Toghill netted a famous five in his final outing for the Blues at the weekend.
The lively winger is set to emigrate to Australia but on Saturday it was Cranborne he sent down under in a devastating show of finishing.
Toghill nodded home a cross from Ed Bastick (inset) to open the scoring and by half-time the islanders were three ahead.
Lewis Clarke showed good feet and fired in from the edge of the box before Togill bagged his second with another excellent header at the far post.
The Cranes just had no answer to Portland’s dominance and when Toghill set up Bastick for the fourth just two minutes into the second half it was already game over.
The Blues then went on to net five more in the final 20 minutes.
Toghill completed his hat-trick on 70 minutes following a fine through ball from Carl Mutch before Dan Newnham set up Lewis Clarke for number six.
The goal of the game then arrived on 78 minutes and unsurprising it was Toghill that provided it with a stunning strike that flew straight into the top corner from 25 yards.
Cranborne were well and truly deflated and the eighth goal just summed up their afternoon as James Turrell’s challenge on a defender saw the ball ricochet up into the air and over the despairing keeper.
Then, just to rub even more salt in the wounds, Tog-hill bagged his fifth with another header to finally wrap up the scoring.
Portland boss Gary Bailey said: “It was pretty straight forward. In the first half we played against the wind and to come in 3-0 up pretty much killed it.
“We still had to keep our shape and discipline though and to come away with a clean sheet in such blustery conditions was really pleasing “It was also great to see Joe sign off with a superb performance.
“He has been a fantastic asset for the club over the last couple of years and everyone wishes him all the best for the future.”
Portland are now back on top of the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League, two points above Merley Cobham Sports.
