GOLF: Maureen’s great silver show at Came Down

MAUREEN Prowse produced a fantastic performance to finish top of the Silver Division in the Stableford for MacMillan Cancer Relief Spoons at Came Down.
Prowse finished the clear winner with 40 points with Erica Howard (36) and Libby Legg (35) second and third respectively.
Mel Hooley (36) won Bronze A ahead of Christine Brittain (34) and Michael Bailey (31), while Roma Foot took (35) in front of Brenda Rosindell (31) and Jenny Paterson (31).
The Crabb Tankard Medal proved a lot closer with Maggie Reid (69 nett) coming out on top, followed by Sheila Vogwell (70) and Heather Inman (71).
The latter was also among the high-fliers in the Audrey Preston Salver where she claimed victory alongside Bob Bridgen (70 nett).
Anita and David Rees finished runners-up in the mixed foursomes medal with Sue Cox and Charles Foster, third (73).
More success for Came Down came in the Ladies’ Senior Open at Frome and the South West Veteran Field Day at Honiton.
Ada Ford picked up the trophy for best visitor at the new competition in Somerset while Marion Stanton and Sue Stokey both picked up accolades in Devon.
Stanton came out on top in Bronze Division One with 35 points to finish third overall while Stokey won the longest drive competition.
