ANGLING: Lane scoops charity open
2:58pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Sport
WEST Bay Water Sports held its charity open fishing competition in aid of Weldmar Hos-picecare Trust and in memory of Steve Marley.
Although the weather was wet and windy, 52 anglers turned out to support the event.
Fishing took place from West Bay to West Bexington, with the stone pier at Weymouth opened owing to the bad weather.
The two best specimen match saw garfish, dogfish and ballen wrasse caught, and the weigh-in and prize-giving was held at Parkdean Holiday Park at West Bay, followed by a grand prize draw.
Results: 1 Dave Lane, 143.1 per cent (two garfish); 2 P J Wheeler, 136 per cent (two garfish); 3 Dave Bowyer, 128 per cent (two dogfish). Best specimen pool: Dave Lane. Best Lady: Rebecca Jarmen (two ballen wrasse). Best Junior: Eden Lynham (one dogfish).
Tracey Marley would like to thank everybody who took part in the event and all the companies and people who donated prizes.
Thanks also go to West Bay Sea Angling Club for running the fishing competition and Parkdean for the use of their venue.
A total of £1,970 was raised on the day for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and the good news is that the event will be repeated next year.
* FOURTEEN anglers fished for this year’s Wally Pettet Memorial Trophy at Charmouth with Lea Windsor attempting to win it for the third year on the trot.
However, this year it was Simon Bowditch who came out on top with a catch which included a club record gilthead bream.
Results: 1 Simon Bowditch 3490g, 2 Simon Skinner 3330g, 3 Lea Windsor 2805g. Top Lady: Lynn Mudford 2445g. Heaviest fish pool: Lynn Mudford (900g dogfish). Most species: Steve Harwood. Shore Competitions: West Bexington.
