DORCHESTER Town have struck lucky with loan signings over the years and Brandon Goodship is another one who has made his mark at the Avenue.

After struggling to find his feet in his first spell with the Magpies at the start of the season, the 19-year-old is now showing everyone his true potential.

His third month on loan from Bourne-mouth is set to end next weekend but the striker says he is “more than willing to stay for as long as Dorchester need me”.

Speaking to Echosport, the teenager had nothing but praise for the way the county town club has helped develop his game after he was thrown in at the deep end against Staines on the opening day of the campaign.

“I was more than willing to come in the first place because of the experience of playing Conference South football,” said Goodship, who has found the net three times in Skrill South this season.

“I had a good experience at Blackfield & Langley last season and this was a step up from that.

“I did struggle a bit physically in my first month but it was better the second time and it’s going really well now.

“All the lads have been great with me, no-one gets on at you when things aren’t going so well, and Phil (Simkin) has been a pleasure to work with.

“I think my hold-up play has improved a lot since I came here and that’s a pivotal part of a striker’s game when the team wants to go forward.

“But most of all my confidence has gone up and without that it’s very difficult to play well.

“Scoring goals has given me more confidence and you are always happy if you are scoring goals as a striker.”

When asked whether he would consider staying on at the end of his current loan deal, he added: “We’ll just have to see what happens.

“I’d be more than willing to stay for as long as Dorchester needed me.”

Boss Phil Simkin has become a big fan of Goodship, and fellow Bournemouth loanee Josh Wakefield, and it is likely he would jump at the chance to keep both youngsters for as long as possible.

Two Goodship goals helped the Magpies to a 3-1 win at Maidenhead while he got the winner away to Sutton as well.

And after picking up four points from the last two games Goodship sees no reason why the team can’t keep their good form going.

“Results haven’t been going our way and when they go against you early in the season, like they did with us, it knocks your confidence,” he said.

“But I definitely think we can stay up this season.

“The morale in the dressing room is really good and everyone is sticking together.”

Goodship is hoping to secure a new contract with the Cherries when his current deal comes to an end this season.

Meanwhile, the Magpies were knocked out of the Dorset Senior Cup by Wessex League Premier Division outfit Hamworthy United last night.

Their 4-1 quarter-final defeat was made worse by a first-half injury for Harry Bell that saw him stretchered off.

Josh Tennant got Dorchester’s goal in the County Ground loss.
