TEN-MAN Lazy Lizard belied their name by sinking the Sailors Return at Redlands.

Despite being unable to field a full side, the Lizard ran out 5-1 winners in the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership clash, their biggest victory of the season.

Will Mitchell put the Esplanade outfit into an early lead before Steve Pike doubled the advantage on 22 minutes to leave the Sailors stunned.

The Quaysiders tried to respond after the break but when Pike added his second and the unfortunate Rob Owen looped a header over his own keeper to make it 4-0, the game was pretty much over.

Dave Sowerby did pull one back, only for the Lizard to then win a penalty in the closing stages, which was confidently put away by Jake Littler to complete the scoring.

Elsewhere in the league, Broadmayne thrashed struggling Bakers Arms 10-2 while Aura’s title hopes suffered a huge setback in the form of a 4-2 defeat against Alexandra.

Danny Andrews and Chucky Taylor both found the target for Aura but it was not enough as the Alex hit back with a hat-trick from Jack Price and a strike from Daniel Cook.

Aura remain second in the table but are now three points adrift of table-toppers Bar 314 having played a game more.

Three Weymouth Sunday League teams were also involved in Dorset Sunday Senior Cup quarter-finals action and there was bad news for two of them.

Famous Old Spa went down 8-1 against Cobham Sports while Bar 314 were edged out 5-4 by Branksome Railway.

The Premiership leaders came back from 2-1 down to lead 3-2 at one stage, only for Michael Stone to then give away a penalty.

Branksome Railway dispatched the spot-kick and then grabbed another, and although their opponents pulled back to 4-4, the East Dorset outfit eventually sneaked through. Bar 314’s tally was made up of a brace from Sam Nichols, a strike from Stone and an own goal.

There were better fortunes in the competition for Dolphin. They received a walkover against Specialist Lettings and are now waiting to find out their opponents in the semi-finals.
