THE Yacht Clubs of Weymouth keelboat regatta committee, led by Adrian Crook, have announced the dates of next year’s regatta.
From Friday, July 25 to Sunday July 27, local boats, as well as visitors, will compete in more than seven races on the Olympic waters of Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour.
The Impala Association have already requested that their anniversary nationals are run alongside the regatta with boats expected to travel from Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Yacht Clubs of Weymouth comprise of Castle Cove Sailing Club, the Royal Dorset Yacht Club, the Royal Naval Sailing Assoc-iation and Weymouth Sailing Club.
Weymouth Sailing Club will be the host club with most of the functions centred around their Nothe Parade headquarters.
Visiting boats will be moored on Weymouth Harbour’s cove pontoon, bringing in welcome revenue for the town.
Sponsorship is being actively sought to help cover expenses and raise monies for local charities.
Last year, the regatta raised £611 for the Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust and the organisers are hoping to raise more this year for an, as yet, unnamed charity.
