TERRAS: Weymouth must deliver
THE Terras must deliver on the pitch tomorrow and put last Saturday’s shambles at Stourbridge firmly behind them, according to assistant-manager Matt Groves.
Weymouth host a side in St Albans City that have scored more than three goals a game in their last six league outings, but Groves reckons it is the sort of fixture the team needs.
And he knows that anything less than a vastly improved performance from the one the Terras gave in the Black Country last weekend just won’t do.
“Nobody wants to experience something like that again,” he told Echosport. “But there’s not much we can do about it now, so we have to move on.
“It’s crucial we put in a great performance against St Albans and bounce back straight away and the feeling of embarrassment after Stourbridge should spur everyone on to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“And a good display is even more important in front of our own supporters, anything less than that and I’m sure they will let us know about it.
“I think it’s good that we have a tough game straight after last Saturday.
“Everyone is going to be on it and giving 110 per cent because, if we’re not, then we won’t get a result.
“We are aware that concentration and energy levels have got to be right up there and we have to put in a massive performance to get anything out of the game.”
In the Saints, Weymouth face a side on a six-match unbeaten streak in the Calor Southern Premier Division, who boast one of the league’s hot-shot strikers in John Frendo.
But while they have been free-scoring of late, the Saints are prone to conceding a few, something Groves is well aware of.
“They have got some good players like John Frendo up front,” he added. “He has been one of the best strikers in this league over the last few years.
“And he is so dangerous that if you give him any room he only needs a few chances to score.
“He is someone who we have got to watch but, like any team in this league, if you give strikers chances they are going to punish you.
“But while they score a lot of goals they also concede a few and we’ve got to take advantage of that.”
Jamie Symes sits out the game through illness and the fitness of Luke Winsper (ankle) was being assessed at training last night.
