Harry Fry’s Champion Hurdle winner Rock On Ruby has been entered to make a novice chasing debut at Plumpton on Monday.

The 2012 Cheltenham hero, prepared by the Seaborough handler when overseeing Paul Nicholls’ satellite yard, was runner-up to Hurricane Fly when defending his title but suffered a heavy loss to The New One on his seasonal comeback at Kempton.

Fry announced in August he would be putting a possible campaign over fences on hold for another year, but Rock On Ruby is entered for the Winter Gala Novices’ Chase at the Sussex course.

Fry said: “It’s a change of plan from what we were looking at from the start of the season, but we were obviously disappointed with his run behind The New One.

“It was back to the drawing board and when you look at the hurdlers that are coming through, it wasn’t going to be easy for him.

“We’ve been quietly schooling him over fences to see if it was a realistic option and Plumpton represents an opportunity for him to start a new chapter in his career.

“If he can even be half as good over fences as hurdles, we’ll be delighted.”
