PORTLAND’S Olympic sailor Luke Patience will be trading his 470 boat for a Fireball high-performance dinghy to compete in the GJW Direct Sailjuice Winter Series this weekend.

Patience, who is campaigning for Rio 2016 with Olympian Joe Glanfield, will be racing at the Datchet Flyer event alongside Fireball National Championship winning crew Richard Anderton.

Held at Datchet Water Sailing Club in Horton, Berkshire, Patience will also be guest speaker at SailRacer’s end-of-season party, which will be held tomorrow evening.

The London 2012 silver medallist said: “I am really excited to race at the weekend. It’s a new boat, so a new experience with someone new.

“It’s nice to take a moment away from the heaviness of the Olympic sailing, yet do something that will bring in new perspectives.

“I love this sport. If I am on the water I am a very happy man.”

All boats will be fitted with SailRacer’s GPS trackers throughout the weekend so follow the live action at sailjuiceseries.com
