BEES: Bridport out to topple league leaders
UNBEATEN league leaders Larkhall Athletic stand in the way of Bridport tomorrow (3pm) but Trevor Senior reckons his men have nothing to lose as they attempt to end their opponents’ impressive run.
The Larks have dropped just two points all season in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division and sit proudly at the top of the tree with 17 wins and a draw from their 18 games.
But the Bees could well have been heading to Bath this weekend looking to complete the double over their hosts.
They led Larkhall 3-1 on the opening day of the season in August only to lose 4-3 and have Tom Richardson sent off.
However, after a stuttering start to their campaign, Bridport are enjoying a real purple patch and the 3-1 victory at Longwell last time out took their unbeaten league record seven games.
And that is just the sort of form to be in ahead of a trip to the side flying at the top of the table.
“The game against Longwell was a big one for us because we’ve got a tough month coming up and we needed three points to get it off to a good start,” said Bees boss Senior.
“We’re in ninth place but that win at Longwell has given us more breathing space and eased any worries we had about relegation.
“That’s seven league games without defeat now and we are on a great run going into this Saturday’s game at Larkhall Athletic.
“It would be nice to be the first team to beat them this season but we are going to be without Ryan Dovell, which won’t make it any easier.
“Being a postman, this time of the year is always very busy for him, but the lads are really confident at the moment and we go to Larkhall with absolutely nothing to lose.
“There is confidence in the way we are playing and there is no reason why we can’t go to Larkhall this weekend and cause an upset.”
Bridport soared into the top 10 for the first time this season with a hard-earned win at Longwell, following up September’s 4-0 hammering of the same team at home.
