PHIL Simkin has called for anyone found guilty of match-fixing to feel the full force of the law.

The Magpies’ boss feels a no-nonsense approach is required and fixers should spend time behind bars as well as being banned from the game for life.

The issue of match-fixing has reared its ugly head recently with two players at Dorchester’s Skrill South rivals Whitehawk among those implicated.

And for Simkin, pictured, the matter is something he is struggling to get his head around.

“It’s an awful thing,” he said. “If you talk to 99 per cent of people in football it would never ever go through their minds.

“To think that it could possibly have happened in a game I’ve been involved in is sickening.

“Anyone found guilty should not only be banned for life but put inside.”

Simkin says rumours that something untoward might have been going on were circulating last season, but he never suspected it himself.

He added: “We heard whispers that it was going on in non-League football.

“You just hoped it wasn’t true but it turns out it was.

“I don’t know how you would know if it was going on.

“Players get booked for nothing nowadays so it would have to be something really blatant.

“But I have never thought about it or suspected it and it has never crossed my mind.”

Dorchester are bidding for back-to-back league victories today when they entertain Concord Rangers at the Avenue (3pm).
