MEMBERS of Woolbridge Motor Club gathered at the village hall in Frampton to honour those who have excelled across various motorsport disciplines during 2013.

Competitors in rallies, trials and speed hill climbs celebrated the success of fellow members, including Keith Grant who claimed the Champion Driver award in the Navigational Challenge Series in addition to the Motor Sports Association Silver Jubilee Salver.

The Axminster driver also secured the Newlands Trophy to complete a memorable treble.

Dorchester’s Merv Brake won the Champion Navigator title, Antony Pope picked up the prize for Best Beginner Driver and Neil Cowell claimed the Rod Purkiss Memorial Trophy as the Best Beginner Navi- gator.

Events at Wiscombe Park and Charmouth’s Manor Farm counted along with a larger series of qualifiers in determining the club’s speed events champion and winner of the Silver Jubilee Trophy.

And this year it was Wey-mouth’s Westfield sports car driver Geoff Blake who fended off challenges from Mike Lee (OMS S2000-Suzuki) and Simon Neve Mitsubishi Evo 6RS) to emerge triumphant.

The four class winners in the 4x4 Trials Championship were Stan Johnson (Upwey Challenge Cup), Andy Vickery (Wessex Trailers Trophy), Paul Johnston (South Dorset Trophy) and Garry Arnold (50th Anniversary Trophy).

The overall championship was won by John Tite from Lyons Gate, near Cerne Abbas.

The premier award in the car trials category, the WMC Field Events Trophy, was won by Weymouth’s John York in his MG Midget.

He also triumphed in the Victor Ludorum Championship for the best performance across a number of different motorsport events. Garry Arnold was runner-up and the Junior Victor Ludorum went to Jamie Livingston.

Bridport’s Mike Furse scooped the Committee Cup for the person who marshalled at the most events, while the Carpenter Shield was presented to driver, turned administrator, Hayley Thorne for her hard work.

Having taken the year off from driving her five-litre Pilbeam MP43 sports racer, Charminster’s Thorne became heavily involved in the administration of the club’s major speed events.

During the season the club also ran a photography competition sponsored by Wessex Photos.

Weymouth’s Andy Webb and Tony Freeman both won one of the four classes, Phil Gale from Winfrith another, and Char-minster seven-year-old Richard Thorne claimed the under-16 category.
