PHIL Simkin is facing the prospect of losing the services of AFC Bournemouth striker Brandon Goodship.

The talented frontman’s latest loan deal came to an end after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Concord Rangers and it appears he could be heading back to the Cherries.

Goodship has been the Magpies’ main threat in recent weeks, helping the Skrill South strugglers secure eight points from their last five league games and grabbing two goals in the process.

Simkin told Echosport: “Brandon has been fantastic for us but it’s looking doubtful that we will be able to keep him.

“I will be speaking to AFC Bourne-mouth again over the next couple of days but I am really not sure what is going to happen yet. We will just have to wait and see.”

It was fellow AFC Bournemouth loanee Josh Wakefield that grabbed the limelight against Concord, bagging two goals, the second of which was a stunner from 30 yards.

However, that goal was overshadowed by Rangers’ injury-time equaliser, which left Dorchester feeling very aggrieved.

The officials appeared to miss a foul on defender Steve Walker in the build up to the goal, much to Simkin’s frustration.

“Steve was definitely fouled, there was no two ways about it,” he added. “Unfortunately though, the officials missed it and it has cost us two points.”

Despite his obvious annoyance at that, the Dorchester boss did admit his team also rode their luck at times with Concord missing several good chances.

Simkin continued: “We invited too much pressure on ourselves.

“We did not hold the ball up well enough in the second half and lost the midfield, and when you allow that many crosses to come over you are always running the risk.

“Concord are a good side with two very experienced centre halves and had we come back from 2-1 down and drawn, we would have been delighted.

“To be so close to winning it though, and then having to settle for just a point, is difficult to take.

“The lads are certainly disappointed and in some ways I am pleased that they are.

“They gave me everything again and at one stage I thought they had done enough.

“However, when the equaliser went in, I was just glad we held on because had we gone on to lose it, I think it would have killed us.”

Commenting on Wakefield’s display, Simkin said: “I thought he was good.

“The second goal he scored was fantastic. It was a great strike and it’s the first time I have really seen him hit a ball like that.

“Nick Crittenden’s run in the build up to the first goal was also superb but to be honest they all did well.”

One man that was missing from the Dorchester squad on Saturday was new-signing Colin Makoni, who was forced to watch from the stands due to a tight thigh.

The Magpies remain bottom of Skrill South where they are now level on points with the four teams above them.
