THERE was plenty of festive cheer at Bar 314 after their title rivals all dropped points in the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership.

The reigning champions, formerly known as Rendezvous, were not in action in the latest round of games but defeats for Aura and Britannia have further strengthened their position at the top of the table.

Sean Gulliver and Charlie May both found the target for Dolphin as they beat Aura 2-0, while Britannia slumped to a shock 9-4 defeat at Broadmayne.

Stu Burley bagged a hat-trick for the Portlanders with the other goal coming from Simon True.

Those two results have left Bar 314 with a six-point lead heading into the Christmas break with games in hand. And having won all nine of their league fixtures to date, it would appear Phil Groves’ men are well on the way to retaining their title.

Elsewhere in the division, Sailors Return won 4-2 at Market House while Lazy Lizard hammered Famous Old Spa 7-2.

The league is scheduled to resume on January 5.
