CARL McClements and Matt Harvey could be set for an extended run in Weymouth’s first-team squad as Jason Matthews continues to shake things up at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The caretaker-manager has a lot of faith in the duo and is not afraid of throwing them in at the deep end with Dave Allen and Jamie Symes having already been ruled out of the Terras’ festive fixtures.

Allen has broken a foot and is set to be out for at least a month, while Symes is waiting on results of an MRI scan on a heart condition, which are not due until the New Year.

Matthews, who has been trying to get reinforcements in all week, told Echosport: “I have had a lot of positive feedback from the calls I have made this week but, as yet, there is nothing concrete to report.

“With Dave and Jamie out, and Ashley Weeks suspended this weekend, it is clear we could do with some more bodies in and we will continue to try and do that.

“At the same time though, it is also an opportunity for the likes of Clemo and Matt Harvey to come in and show what they can do.

“Both of them have potential and they could well get their chance over the Christmas period with so many games coming up.”

The Terras picked up a point and a welcome clean sheet at Banbury last weekend, and Matthews is hoping for a similar performance at home to struggling Bedford tomorrow (3pm).

He added: “We have had some really good training sessions this week and I just want everyone to go out there and give me everything again.

“I want to get a feel-good factor going at the club and with our fans right behind us, I am confident we can get another positive result.”

Barry McConnell and Danny Clay look the likely candidates to replace Wells and Allen in Weymouth’s starting XI tomorrow with McClements and Harvey being handed spots on the bench.

Third-bottom Bedford sit 10 points adrift of the Terras in the Calor Southern Premier Division and are currently on a winless league run of 12 games.
