RUGBY: Dorchester set sights on Shield final
5:00am Friday 20th December 2013 in Sport
DORCHESTER Seconds aim to make it to the Dorset & Wilts Second XV Shield final for the second year in succession when they face Warminster II in the semi-final tomorrow at Coburg Road (2pm).
The county town’s second string have enjoyed their recent success in the competition and go into the game in good form having won their last two league games.
Captain Tom Evans said: “Getting to last year’s final gave us the belief that we have a group of lads that are capable of winning some silverware.
“This year, we want to give ourselves another opportunity to win something.”
Manager Tom Gower added: “We’re not there yet and we’ll take nothing for granted.
“Although Warminster play in Dorset & Wilts Three, they’ve got to this semi-final on their own merits so we need to concentrate on our performance so we can win the game and we can then think about another final day.
“The squad are really looking forward to this match, maybe it was on our minds a little bit last week so it was good to get the New Milton game out of the way, and to pick up the win, so that we can now put everything into tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Puddletown will be hosting their annual Town versus Country Boxing Day challenge again this year.
All players, ex-players, associates, friends and family are welcome to attend for a light-hearted runaround.
The game kicks-off off at 11.30am on Thursday at Greenfields and players are asked to meet at 11am.
