WITH the Christmas break upon us, WeySports Netball Club looks back at their season so far.

The club entered one team into the South & West Dorset League and they are sitting happily in mid-table going into the festive period after winning eight games and narrowly losing four.

With only two games remaining, Moby Dick’s hope to secure all 10 points on offer to ensure they finish as far up the table as possible.

Shooting starlet Alice DeKretser expressed her delight at how the season has panned out for the young side.

She said: “I think all our players have shone. With new players joining us over the summer, we have become a tight-knit unit.

“I would like to think we could grab third position overall.”

Moby Dick’ winter highlights have included a huge victory over newcomers JD Wetherspoons, winn- ing 41-9 and defeating Bennetts dur-ing the club’s first meeting of the season.

Captain Darcy Belle feels the team has grown over the campaign.

She added: “If I look back to how we played last year, I feel all of the girls have developed their skills.

“This has meant we have played some fantastic netball this season as we deserve to finish among the top teams.”

The side has also impressed the club’s award-winning coach Juliette Frampton, pictured.

She said: “The girls are always willing to train hard to improve their skills and game play, they never lack in motivation or dedication.

“I feel this is why they have ground out some good results against sides which have much more experience than themselves.”

Defender Fran Guarraci and newcomer Nicole Bir-ley have excelled, taking the player-of-the-match award on more than one occasion.

Frampton added: “I feel each and every one of my players have been outstanding this season, and I think choosing my player of the season at the end will be a particularly difficult choice.”

Not only have the players been busy on court but six of them have been training hard to become umpires.

Frampton added: “I am impressed with the girls that have chosen to become umpires – it shows a real dedication to the club.”

After a few more weeks of practicing, the girls hope to be tested and qualified in time for the new summer season in March.

In addition, social secretary Chloe Desmond has been hard at work organising the club’s Christmas meal, fundraising events and a trip to see Super League side Team Bath in February.

Desmond said: “I think the team has bonded well this season due to the social side of our club.”

Captain Belle added “I love being a part of WeySports as we are like one big family.”

WeySports will be entering two teams into the South & West Dorset League’s Summer Season, and is still looking to recruit at least two more players.

The club is looking for experienced or new players, who can play any position.
