FROME TOWN 1

(Groves 61)

WEYMOUTH 2

(Yetton 77, 85)

STEWART Yetton bagged two goals in eight minutes as the Terras pulled off a remarkable turnaround at Frome Town this afternoon.

The Robins were the better side for much of the encounter but a late rally from the visitors left them stunned in what turned out to be a thrilling finale.

Caretaker-manager Jason Matthews kept faith with the same starting XI that lost 3-0 against Poole Town on Boxing Day, with Nathan Walker, Barry McConnell and Mark Ford all having to settle for places on the bench once again.

As for Frome, they made just one change to the side that drew 3-3 at Chippenham Town in their last outing, with Jon Vance replacing Tim Stephenson, who was named amongst the substitutes.

They also included three ex-Terras in their starting XI in Rhys Baggridge, Ben Wood and Matt Groves.

With Frome winless in their last eight in the league and the Terras still reeling from their home defeat to the Dolphins, it was perhaps no surprise that this game got off to an edgy start.

There was plenty of effort on show but the first 20 minutes witnessed very few chances at either end.

Wood’s long throw-ins were presenting a constant threat for Frome while Groves was the liveliest of the strikers.

The ex-Weymouth assistant-manager headed wide following a cross from Ricky Hulbert before seeing another effort saved by Matthews at point-blank range.

Jon Vance then fired over from the edge of the box as the hosts began to put the Terras under a little bit of pressure.

Vance was certainly looking lively and, after picking up a booking for a foul on Luke Winsper, he went close again with a free-kick on 36 minutes, which whistled past a post.

At the other end, the Terras were struggling to break Frome down with Darren Chitty pretty much a bystander in the home goal.

Scott Walker fired wide from distance on 42 minutes but that was all the visitors could muster in a poor first-half display.

It was clear the Terras desperately needed to lift their game but once again it was Frome that made the brighter start after the break.

Groves saw a header tipped over by Matthews before Aaron Ledgister tried his luck on 57 minutes, only to see his effort fly well wide.

The visitors were living dangerously but they did respond with a flowing move moments later, which saw Yetton just fail to get on the end of Luke Burbidge’s cross.

However, Frome continued to look the better side and on 61 minutes they finally broke the deadlock.

Wood’s long throw caused mayhem in the Weymouth box and there was Groves to fire home from just six yards to the delight of the home fans.

Matthews responded by replacing Danny Clay with Mark Ford but, just minutes later, the Weymouth keeper had to be alert again to scramble the ball away from Josh Ford, as Frome immediately pressed for a second.

With 19 minutes remaining, the Terras were still looking flat, so defender Nathan Walker was the next player to come on in place of full-back Jake Green in a desperate bid to turn the tide.

The switch instantly heaped more pressure on the Frome backline and, after Yetton shot wide after good work from Ashley Wells, the visitors equalised.

The breakthrough came on 77 minutes when Nathan Walker’s flick on was dummied by Joyce, allowing Yetton to fire the ball beyond Chitty from 15 yards.

Suddenly Frome looked shellshock and, just eight minutes later, the Terras grabbed the winner.

Winsper provided the through ball and there was Yetton again to blast the ball into the top-left corner to send the away supporters wild.

It was clear that Nathan Walker’s introduction had changed the game, on the same day that it was revealed that both him, and his brother Michael, had been transfer listed for an ongoing dispute with the club’s board.
