YEOVIL TOWN 4 LEYTON ORIENT 0

YEOVIL Town's supporters were rewarded for their hard work as the Glovers progressed to the FA Cup fourth round with a stylish demolition of Leyton Orient, writes Chris Spittles..

The game at Huish Park was in doubt before kick-off after a prolonged period of heavy rain.

But an army of fans helped groundstaff remove protective covers and sweep away large amounts of water surrounding the pitch.

And their efforts paid off as a James Hayter double and further goals from Joel Grant and Kieffer Moore, his first for the club, sealed a comfortable win.

Manager Gary Johnson said: “The ground staff and supporters worked really hard to get the game on after all the rain we’ve had so we didn’t want to let them down, and we didn’t.

“It was a good all-round performance and we scored four good goals to reward all the staff and volunteers who worked so hard on the pitch.

“I think we saw the difference between the Championship and League One.

“I know Russell (Slade) was without a few players but we were professional and made sure we went through.

“I know other clubs have suffered upsets and been held to draws and we didn’t want that to be us, we wanted to be safely in that draw.”

Hayter opened the scoring on 12 minutes, heading into an empty net after O’s keeper Jake Larkins misjudged a cross.

Early in the second half, Yeovil doubled their advantage as Grant slid in to convert a cross from Liam Davis.

On the hour mark, Hayter made it 3-0, heading home a cross from the right wing from Kevin Dawson.

But the veteran striker was denied the chance of a hat-trick as he was substituted with eight minutes left, replaced by former Magpie Kieffer Moore.

Moore made the most of his chance as he made it 4-0 in the final minute, confidently slotting home after running on to a pass from Ed Upson.
