THE Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy (IPACA) PE department and Weymouth RFC have formed a new partnership to try and promote rugby on the island.

The partnership has been formed through an Active Dorset Programme to use schools as satellites to create and promote school and club links.

The programme aims to set up a coaching base at IPACA as well as transport Portland students to training sessions at Weymouth’s Monmouth Avenue base.

Four students have been identified as ambassadors to promote the sport and provide information to students who show an interest.

IPACA’s head of sport, Dan Kinsey, said: “I’m very excited and pleased to be working so closely with Weymouth Rugby Club to promote the sport at the academy, on the island and locally in Weymouth and Portland.

Rugby is new to the curriculum at IPACA but is gathering momentum within lessons and at the school in extra-curricular activities.”
