CC WEYMOUTH is inviting cyclists to a talk on training to ride fast by Adam Topham, the British Best All-Rounder of 2012 and 2013, writes Eamonn Deane.

The talk will take place at the King’s Arms Hotel on High East Street, Dorchester on January 29 at 7pm and there will be a charge of £2 at the door to cover the cost of the event.

For further details, contact Justin Oakley on 266798 or 07968213833 or, alternatively, e-mail him at justinoakley@hotmail.co.uk.

Meanwhile, 26 riders braved the icy conditions to complete the latest Mud, Sweat n’ Gears 50-mile reliability trial.

The Dorchester bike shop has been organising monthly rides to build fitness ahead of the new race season.

The reliability trial dates back to the early years of the 20th century when cycling equipment was not so reliable, road surfaces were poor, sign-posting was even worse, and mobile phones had yet to be invented.

Reliability trial riders needed to be resilient, able to navigate, capable of dealing with minor mechanical problems, and fit enough to complete the course.
