TWO of the greatest players to ever grace the green baize are set to go head-to-head at Snookes in Weymouth on January 20.

Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry have won 13 world titles between them during their glittering careers and are renowned for their domination of the game during the eighties and nineties respectively.

Unsurprisingly, tickets for their forthcoming show at Snookes have already sold out and club owner Mark Cottingham is expecting an extra special atmosphere on the night.

He told Echosport: “They are the best two players to have ever played the game so it is going to be a fantastic evening.

“The tickets sold out really quickly and I could have easily sold a lot more.

“However, if I had done that, I would have had to move it away from the club, which is something I didn’t want to do.”

Davis and Hendry will lock horns in a challenge match at the venue in Caroline Place before taking on some lucky members of the audience in doubles action.

Davis will also stage one of his infamous trick-shot shows during the evening, which will also include the return of professional referee Michaela Tabb.

Snookes has hosted several similar evenings in the past and they have always proved a great success.

In the past few years, the club has welcomed the likes of Dennis Taylor and John Parrott, Davis and Mark Selby.

This month will also see Cottingham take part in the inaugural IPA Blackball Lakeside World Championships in Frimley Green.

The event is set to run from January 22-26 and will include singles and doubles competitions.

Cottingham, who represented England at the Nations Cup in Malta back in November, added: “I am going on the main IPA tour this year and I am really looking forward to the World Championships later this month.

“It’s going to be a huge event with 192 players taking part and, hopefully, I can go there and give a good account of myself.

“I will be taking part in both the main individual competition and the senior competition, so it promises to be another great experience.”
