WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2 SHAFTESBURY 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves produced a dominant display to gain sweet revenge over the Rockies at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.

Having lost 3-2 at Shaftesbury earlier in the season, the Terras were desperate to put the record straight and they did it in excellent fashion, thanks to a fine all-round team performance.

Lee Sharpe, making his return after fracturing an ankle, opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a superb volley on the turn before another great finish from Sam Nichols wrapped up the victory after the break.

Sean Zima and Paul Ford also went close for the Terras while home stopper Ryan Park was rarely troubled at the other end.

Weymouth boss Jake Richmond told Echosport: “It was a really good performance and I was delighted with every single one of them afterwards.

“They were a different side to the one we played earlier in the season and although they didn’t trouble us a lot, they were very dogged and physical in the middle of the park.

“As a result of that, we had to work really hard for the victory and in many ways it was nice to win a game like that.

“It was certainly deserved and to be honest we could have won it by a couple more.

“In terms of the all-round display, it was very pleasing indeed but I thought Gareth Will and Aston Butcher were particularly outstanding.

“Gareth may only be 17 but he played in the holding role and did a fantastic job.”

Some of the reserves turned out for the first team in the Red Insure Cup last week when they came under some criticism following a 2-1 defeat.

Responding to those negative comments, Richmond added: “I thought that was really hard on the four reserve-team lads that played in that match.

“Some fans just don’t understand the game and the lads did feel a bit down about it afterwards.

“I am really pleased with my players and what they have achieved so far this season.

“We have made breakthroughs into the first team and the DPL rep side, and we are also going well in the league, so I am very proud of them all.”

The Terras currently sit fourth in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League, one point adrift of leaders Merley Cobham Sports having played a game more.

Terras: Park, Sharpe, Anstey, Butcher, J Will, G Will, Beals (P Ford 70), Chatterton, Nichols (B Richmond 85), Zima, Preece (Jackson 78).
